Treatment Resistant Depression: Advances in Evaluation and Management (September 2024)

There is a significant unmet need for optimal assessment and management of treatment-resistant depression (TRD), which is a common and challenging clinical condition in terms of management.
This course outlines the advances in the assessment and clinical management of treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This course intends to provide the learners with an array of effective treatment strategies for TRD including psychopharmacological approaches, psychotherapeutic interventions, ketamine, neuromodulation treatments including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), and emerging treatments such as deep brain stimulation (DBS), psychedelics, and photobiomodulation treatments.
Course materials are available beginning September 3, 2024 and all coursework must be completed by November 11, 2024.

Cancellation Policy
Refunds will be issued for cancellation requests made during the first week of the course, but an administrative fee of $25.00 will be deducted from your refund. Course Directors
Dr. Amit Chopra. MD, MBBS, is a Psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Dr. Chopra completed his medical training at Sawai Man Singh College, Jaipur, India in 2003, followed by research and clinical training in UK at King’s College London and University College London between 2003-2007. Dr. Chopra completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency, Sleep Medicine Fellowship, and Deep Brain Stimulation Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota in between 2007-2013. Dr. Chopra has served as a Medical Director for Center for Treatment-Resistant Depression and Center for Psychiatric Neuromodulation in addition to his role as a President of Pittsburgh Psychiatric Society prior to him joining MGH. Dr. Chopra has multiple areas of interests including mood disorders, sleep disorders, and brain stimulation interventions for psychiatric disorders.
David Mischoulon, MD, PhD is the Director of the Depression Clinical and Research Program (DCRP) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and the Joyce R. Tedlow Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mischoulon graduated from the combined MD-PhD program at Boston University School of Medicine in 1994, and interned in medicine at Carney Hospital from 1994-1995. From 1995-1998 he completed his residency in adult psychiatry at MGH, and served as Chief Resident in Psychopharmacology. Dr. Mischoulon's research focuses on various areas of depression, including complementary and alternative medicine. He is also an accredited medical acupuncturist and has studied acupuncture as a treatment for depression
Speakers
Joan Camprodon, MD, MPH, PhD is Chief of the Division of Neuropsychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Clinically, he is the founding director of the MGH Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) clinical service, a member of the Psychiatric Neurosurgery Committee and an attending physician in the departments of Psychiatry (Neuropsychiatry) and Neurology (Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology). He is board-certified in Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurology-Neuropsychiatry.
Paolo Cassano, MD, PhD is a staff psychiatrist at the DCRP and at the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders (CATSD), and is a part-time assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He is the principal investigator of a clinical trial on near-infrared radiation for the treatment of depression. Dr. Cassano’s research interests include the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders with novel technologies, and cross-cultural psychiatry
Cristina Cusin, MD, is the director and founder of the MGH Ketamine clinic for treatment-resistant depression. She also has an outpatient clinic at the DCRP and often performs consultations for patients with Treatment-Resistant Depression. She has expertise in ketamine, VNS and DBS. Finally, she is one of the clinicians in the ECT team at MGH and she is involved in numerous research studies on ketamine in treatment-resistant mood disorders at MGH and is an Associate Professor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Lauren B. Fisher, PhD is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and a Psychologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She is Director of Clinical Services at the MGH Depression Clinical and Research Program. She is currently the Principal Investigator of a K23 Mentored-Patient Oriented Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) - Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child Health & Human Development (NICHD), evaluating a cognitive behavioral treatment for depression that has been adapted for individuals with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.
