Perinatal Psychiatry: Focus on Treatment Across Pregnancy and the Postpartum will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders before, during, and after pregnancy. Specialized knowledge is necessary to tailor treatments to events such as pregnancy, pregnancy planning, and the postpartum period. Exposure to psychotropic medications and the consequences of untreated psychiatric disorders must be considered when treating pregnant women, those who may become pregnant during treatment, and those who are breastfeeding. Up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge is required to help patients and providers collaboratively make treatment decisions. Focused coursework on the understanding, assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Cancellation Policy
A refund minus a $100.00 administrative fee will be issued for refund requests received by October 1, 2026. No refunds will be issued for refund requests made after October 1, 2026. Payments made may not be applied to future conferences or other educational activities. There are no exceptions to these policies.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe and apply the risks/benefits regarding the utilization of psychiatric medication during pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding contexts.
- Identify strategies for screening and treatment of postpartum depression.
- Discuss the presentation and treatment of postpartum psychosis; describe and assess the vulnerability for mood episodes in women with bipolar disorder and acute treatment and preventative strategies.
- Identify reliable resources for information on the reproductive safety of medications.
- Discuss the pharmacologic treatments of substance use disorders in pregnant and postpartum women.
- Discuss the pharmacologic treatments of ADHD in pregnant and postpartum women.
- Describe the research on evidence-based psychotherapy for perinatal mental health.
- Describe the treatment of emergency perinatal mental health care.
Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, MGH Institute of Health Professions is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP).
