A Practical Guide to the Digital Mental Health Landscape: The Realities, the Challenges, and the Opportunities

 

Description: 

With the increasing number of digital mental health interventions, it can be difficult for clinicians and patients to navigate the digital landscape safely and effectively. This talk will review how digital tools can augment psychiatric care, where they fall short, and areas of research for improving care using digital tools.

Target Audience

This program is intended for Psychiatrists, Psychologists, General and Family Practice Physicians, Psychiatric Nurses, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Social Workers.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify digital mental health interventions that are appropriate for use in clinical practice.
  2. Explain the challenges with digital mental health interventions in terms of effectiveness and safety.

Jessica Lipschitz, PhD

Dr. Lipschitz is the Digital Clinical Lead for MGB Behavioral and Mental Health, a clinical psychologist within the Department of Psychiatry at MGB, and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on digital health, implementation science, and program evaluation, with the goal of improving access to and quality of care. She is the PI of several studies and operational efforts focused on (a) developing and implementing digital psychiatric interventions optimized for engagement and effectiveness; (b) use of digital tools to better understand disease trajectory and inform precision medicine; and (c) mixed-method evaluation of connected care technology integration. She has been funded by the NIMH, the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (formerly NARSAD), the BWH Connors Center for Women’s Health, the BWH Women’s Brain Initiative, the Harvard Brain Science Initiative, and Alkermes, Inc. She also works extensively with the Veterans Health Administration to direct and evaluate the national rollout of eHealth programs.
