Program Overview: This course is only open to Valley Health Residents
By educating on a variety of mental health conditions and treatments, this program aims to enhance the practical skills of participants, enabling them to identify and manage these conditions. The course addresses the need for up-to-date knowledge on drug mechanisms, side effects, and psychotherapeutic techniques. This is critical given the rapid advancements in psychiatric medications and therapies. The focus on managing psychiatric emergencies and understanding patient rights, including involuntary hospitalization, prepares participants to handle acute situations more effectively.
Live Monthly Lectures with MGH Faculty
Attendees will meet with MGH faculty for live monthly Zoom lecture sessions. The sessions will be recorded for those who can't attend live and posted in the course.

- Develop a repertoire of clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of patients presenting with psychiatric symptoms.

- Implement appropriate therapeutic approaches in the management of patients with psychiatric conditions.

Course Directors:
Reham Shaban is the Chief Academic Officer for Valley Health System. Dr. Shaban overseesValley’s Office of Academic Affairs, which consists of a growing roster of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited medical education programs sponsored by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, including residency training programs in internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery. As part of her oversight, she will advance medical education, faculty development, scholarship, and research across Valley Health System.
Dr. Shaban is also the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and Valley’s Designated Institutional Official – responsible for overseeing all medical education programs and compliance with accreditation requirements. She will also now serve on the Icahn School of Medicine’s academic governance committees to advance shared strategic, educational, and research initiatives.
