Emily Zale, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with expertise in developing and evaluating brief, evidence-based interventions to address substance use among patients with chronic medical conditions. Her recent work has included the development and evaluation of a brief motivational intervention that is tailored to address smoking in the context of pain. Dr. Zale is currently the PI of an NIH-Funded research study focused on substance use and chronic illness. She is also Co-I on three studies funded by federal and foundation grants that are focused on integrated psychological care for the treatment and prevention of chronic illness. Her clinical work includes providing cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based interventions in outpatient psychiatric settings, inpatient medical units, and integrated outpatient settings.
