Dr. Jonathan Alpert is Associate Chief of Psychiatry and Director of the Depression Clinical and Research Program at MGH and is the Joyce R. Tedlow Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Field of Depression Studies at Harvard Medical School.
He received his BA and MD from Yale University and his PhD in behavioral pharmacology from the University of Cambridge (UK), where he was a Marshall Scholar. He completed residencies at Boston Children's Hospital and at McLean Hospital before joining the MGH Department of Psychiatry in 1992.
Dr. Alpert is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education, Association for Academic Psychiatry, and Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, and a board member of the National Network of Depression Centers. He is a recipient of the Cynthia Kettyle Teaching Award at Harvard Medical School, the Clinical Mentorship Award at MGH, and Psychopharmacology Supervision Awards from the MGH/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency Program. He has published over 180 original articles and chapters in the areas of depression research, clinical psychopharmacology, and medical education.
