James Luccarelli, MD, DPhil
James Luccarelli, MD, DPhil is the recipient of the 2021 Thomas P. Hackett award for graduating psychiatry residents at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Luccarelli received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Yale University. He attended the University of Oxford on a Marshall Scholarship, where he completed a doctorate in organic chemistry. He attended Harvard Medical School where he also conducted research in the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is a 2021 graduate of the MGH/McLean Psychiatry Residency and present a resident in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at MGH/McLean. His research during residency focused on electroconvulsive therapy, and its application to populations that have been traditionally underserved by this technique. He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of catatonia.
