New England Journal of Medicine Clinicopathological Conference “A 57-Year-Old Woman with Covid-19 and Delusions”
A 57-year-old woman with major depressive disorder and coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) was evaluated because of delusions of being dead, with a hospital course complicated by persistent delusions and a generalized tonic-clonic seizure. Management decisions were made.
SARS-CoV2 has various medical and neuropsychiatric presentations. This case underscores how psychiatric vulnerabilities can manifest as severe neuropsychiatric illness after acute medical illness. A patient with history of bipolar disorder presented with Catatonia and Cotard’s Delusion after recovering from acute respiratory failure secondary to COVID-19 infection and treatment with O2, dexamethasone and remdesivir.
