Manjola Van Alphen, MD, PhD, MBA received her Medical Degree with summa cum laude from the University of Bologna, Italy and went on to earn her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Human Psychobiology from the University of Modena and Reggio-Emilia, Italy working on dementia, depression and related disorders. Dr. Van Alphen joined Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital as a visiting research fellow in 2006 and has continued to be faculty in the role of instructor since 2012 after graduating from the Harvard South Shore Psychiatry Residency Training Program. In 2018 Dr. Van Alphen pursued her interest in organizational leadership and healthcare systems graduating from the Master in Business Administration in Health Care program at Simmons University.
Dr. Van Alphen is the Chief Medical Officer for North Suffolk Mental Health Association where she is also the Medical Director for the Division of Ambulatory Services and founder and Director of the Serious Mental Illness – Substance Use Disorders Clinic. In addition Dr. Van Alphen is a member of the Schizophrenia Clinical and Research Program and Assistant Director of the MGH Public and Community Psychiatry Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Van Alphen’s is an accomplished academic psychiatrist whose more recent research activity has focused on serious mental illness including treatment-resistant mood and psychotic disorders. She has a longstanding interest in healthcare organizational leadership and its role in facilitating adaptation in a rapidly changing health care system. She is passionate about leveraging and implementing technological solutions to facilitate access to care for the most vulnerable individuals. Currently her focus is on bringing the best of her academic experience and her entrepreneurial and leadership acumen, to the community.
