Lowell Schools December 4, 2024 - Trauma Informed Care
Trauma Informed Care
Dana Allswede, PhD
Date: December 4,2024
9:00-10:00 AM EDT
There are significant discrepancies between the prevalence of childhood trauma and the recognition and treatment of trauma-related symptoms. While approximately two thirds of youth experience a potentially traumatic event before the age of 18 in the United States, trauma symptoms are under-recognized and undertreated in children. Exposure to trauma in childhood can have detrimental effects on subsequent development, including academic achievement, social relationships, and psychological well-being. Increased awareness of traumatic stress symptoms and trauma-informed responses may improve outcomes for trauma-exposed youth.
This training will describe symptoms of childhood trauma exposure, explain how exposure to trauma can impact student behavior and functioning and describe strategies for supporting students who have experienced trauma

This program is intended for psychologists, social workers, educators, and license mental health counselors.
