ForwardComprehensive Review for Academic Clinical Nurse Educator Certification (IHP)
This comprehensive review course provides asynchronous and synchronous sessions to prepare participants for the National League of Nursing (NLN) Certified Academic Nurse Educator (CNE®cl) examination and is structured to align with the NLN's exam blueprint. Participants will experience 6 asynchronous learning modules to identify and explore, in depth, the six competencies that describe the role of the academic clinical nurse educator, as well 2 synchronous sessions to discuss test taking skills and apply learning to examination type questions. The core competencies of the CNEcl role are:
- Function within the Education and Health Care Environment
- PART A: Function in the Clinical Nurse Educator Role
- PART B: Operationalize the Curriculum
- PART C: Abide by Legal Requirements, Ethical Guidelines, Agency Policies, and Guiding Framework
- Facilitate Learning in the Healthcare Environment
- Demonstrate Effective Interpersonal Communication and Collaborative Interprofessional Relationships
- Apply Clinical Expertise in the Health Care Environment
- Facilitate Learner Development and Socialization
- Implement Effective Clinical Assessment and Evaluation Strategies

M. Elaine Tagliareni, EdD, RN, CNE, FAAN
Elaine is a Professor and former Dean of the School of Nursing, MGH Institute of Health Professions. She served as President of the National League for Nursing (NLN) from 2007 – 2009 and as Chief Program Officer at the NLN from 2010 through 2017.
For over 25 years Elaine was a Professor of Nursing and the Independence Foundation Chair in Community Health Nursing Education at Community College of Philadelphia.
Elaine has a long history of organizational leadership and grant funded initiatives and has worked nationally to support models that increase the academic progression of all nursing graduates and provide patient-centric care for older adults and their caregivers.
Her passion is nursing education and working with nurse faculty and clinicians to develop nursing specific pedagogical teaching initiatives and build the science of nursing education.
Rachael Salguero, PhD, RN-BC, CNEcl
Rachael is an instructor in the School of Nursing at the MGH Institute of Health Professions and the Track Coordinator for the Nursing Education Department of Labor Grant.
Rachael works as a clinical nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital with a clinical background in medical-surgical nursing and respiratory acute care nursing.
Rachael is the President-Elect of the Massachusetts/Rhode Island League for Nursing (MARLIN), and a member of the Executive Leadership Team of the Massachusetts Regional Caring Science Consortium (MRCSC).
Rachael's research interests include integrating inclusive language into the nursing curriculum and mentoring clinical adjunct faculty.

Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 13, sections 13, 14, 14A, 15 and 15D and Chapter 112, sections 74 through 81C authorize the Board of Registration in Nursing to regulate nursing practice and education.
This program meets the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (244 CMR 5.00) for 6.00 contact hours of nursing continuing education credit. Advance practice nurses, please note: Educational activities which meet the requirements of the ACCME (such as this activity) count towards 50% of the nursing requirement for ANCC accreditation.

This course allows other providers to claim a Participation Certificate upon successful completion of this course.
Participation Certificates will specify the title, location, type of activity, date of activity, and number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ associated with the activity. Providers should check with their regulatory agencies to determine ways in which AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ may or may not fulfill continuing education requirements.
