March 31, 2022 - 7th Susan N. Sweeney, Lecture in Bipolar Disorder Grand Rounds

7th Susan N. Sweeney, Lecture in Bipolar Disorder Grand Rounds: Connecting the Dots: Network-based Perspectives on Mood and Cognition

Treatment for mood and anxiety disorders is often involves trial and error. Advances in neuroimaging have the potential inform treatment selection and customize treatments based on individual patterns of brain connectivity. The presentation will highlight some of these advances and their possible clinical applications.

Network perspectives on brain function have revolutionized the way we conceptualize psychiatric disorders. This talk will present data on using multimodal neuroimaging techniques to understand how brain network alterations connect mood and cognition, how these network abnormalities respond to treatment, and how novel treatments may be designed to target network dysfunction. Additionally, we expand the notion of the networks to include the network of smart connected devices we interact with, which can also yield insights on mood and cognition.

Target Audience

This program is intended for: Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Fellows, Residents, Interns and Nurses

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation participants will be able to:

  1. Describe brain network correlates of CBT treatment response
  2. Describe how brain network properties can be used to identify novel targets for treatment
