Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the importance and impact of collaboration between international psychiatric organizations and support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
- Discuss current APA initiatives to socialize mental health as no different from a physical illness and leave stigma in the past.
- Describe the APA approach to improving mental health equity in the U.S., such as promoting telehealth, diversifying the psychiatric workforce and adoption of the collaborative care model.
Saul Levin, M.D., M.P.A., F-RCPsych, finishes 11 years as the CEO & Medical Director of the APA in June 2024. Dr. Levin is a Clinical Professor at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, in Washington, D.C. Prior to APA he led the District of Columbia’s Department of Health (DOH). Dr. Levin also served as President & CEO of Medical Education for South African Blacks, an anti-apartheid education trust providing scholarships to South African Black students. He served as special expert appointee in the US Department of Health and Human Services in SAMHSA. Currently serves as Secretary General of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA). Dr. Levin has no financial disclosures to report
