This lecture will discuss individuals with mental illness and involvement with the justice system. Programs that address and reduce rates of incarceration and increases connection to health and mental health services will be examined.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program is intended for: Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Fellows, Residents, Interns and Nurses

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the overrepresentation of individuals with mental illness in the legal system.
  • Describe the role of diversion programs, mental health courts, and treatment engagement in reducing arrests in people with mental illness.
  • Design research to evaluate mental health interventions in global populations to meet health needs of individuals with mental illness.
