MGHPGR: 10th Anne W. Alonso, Lecture in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

The 10th Anne W. Alonso, Lecture in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - My “Couch” in the Barrio: A Psychoanalyst Looks At Clinical Practice With Poor Latinx and Marginalized Populations

This lecture argues for the pertinence and usefulness of psychoanalysis with populations of Latino-origin living under economically oppressive circumstances as well as with those of marginalized race, gender, class, or sexual identities. By embracing cultural difference by way of language, race, class, and identity, this lecture reveals the emancipatory potential of psychoanalysis and its ability to implement social change. At the intersection of psyche and community this lecture addresses modalities of individual suffering that are also allegories of social conditions. This focus is a crucial step towards an increased awareness of issues of culture, language, race and gender.

Target Audience

This program is intended for: Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Fellows, Residents, Interns and Nurses
