MGHPGR: 4th Annual Theodore A. Stern, MD, Lecture on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

4th Annual Theodore A. Stern, MD, Lecture on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry: Facing Immunotherapy: Opportunities and Challenges for Interdisciplinary Care

Currently, we are in the midst of an exciting revolution in the treatment of cancer. By harnessing and enhancing the body’s immune system with the use of novel therapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, we can reduce the amount of tumor burden in patients and, in a subset of patients and cancers, achieve long-lasting remission. This has led to FDA approval of immune-based treatments for a multitude of cancers – with many additional agents (or combination of agents) in the pipeline. However, these therapies are often limited by treatment-induced autoimmune adverse events. We are proud that the Massachusetts General Hospital has taken the lead in this arena by altering our clinical practice model and creating the Severe Immunotherapy Complications (SIC) Service to provide expert multi-disciplinary care for affected patients. Our service is made up of over 19 departments and divisions in the institution. This presentation will review the opportunities and challenges for interdisciplinary care in this burgeoning new field.

This program is intended for: Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Fellows, Residents, Interns and Nurses
