October 29, 2020 The U.S. Opioid Crisis—Science = Solutions

October 29, 2020 The U.S. Opioid Crisis—Science = Solutions

The U.S. Opioid Crisis has included an unprecedented increase in overdose deaths associated first with prescription-type opioids and, more recently, with illicit opioids and stimulants. Overlap among these substances is a key reminder that the “opioid crisis” actually involves multiple substances and multiple comorbidities. Successfully addressing these public health concerns appears to require multiple strategies, particularly with the overlay of the new SARS-Cov-2 pandemic and its sequelae.

Target Audience

This program is intended for: Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Fellows, Residents, Interns and Nurses

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the multiple waves of the U.S. overdose crisis
  • Describe the major components of the national strategies to address the opioid crisis
  • Plan for thoughtful and safe reductions or discontinuation of opioids
