Dr. Deborah Brief is a clinical psychologist and has worked at the VA Boston Healthcare System for nearly 30 years. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1984. Dr. Brief is Director of Residential and Rehabilitation Services at the VA Boston Healthcare System (VA BHS), and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine. She currently oversees a diverse set of residential treatment programs, outpatient addiction treatment programs, and vocational programs. Dr. Brief is also on the faculty of the pre-doctoral and clinical fellowship training programs and the Co-Director of the Interprofessional Addiction Fellowship Program at VA BHS. Her research interests are in designing and testing the effectiveness of psychosocial treatments for alcohol and drug use disorders, and substance use disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Her latest research is focused on the reach and effectiveness of web and other technology based interventions for Veterans with problem drinking and PTSD symptoms.
