Dr. Enggasser is the Section Chief for Substance Abuse Treatment Services at VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS).  He provides clinical and administrative oversight for all outpatient and residential addiction treatment services at VABHS, which includes two residential treatment programs and four high-volume outpatient clinics. Dr. Enggasser is active in the selection and training of psychology predoctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows through the Boston University and Harvard Medical School affiliated training programs at VABHS, and provides direct supervision for pre-doctoral psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows in clinical and research work.  Dr. Enggasser is actively involved in clinical research, and has completed several studies examining biological mediators of alcohol and drug effects, including a psychopharmacological study that provided some of the first human evidence for the involvement of a dopaminergic mechanism in the mediation of alcohol’s stimulant and reinforcing qualities. He has also investigated dopamine’s association with impulsivity, a behavioral characteristic that is commonly associated with substance abuse and relapse to substance dependence.  He is currently involved in projects developing and testing new treatment delivery models using technology-based methods for Veterans with co-occurring Substance Use Disorders and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and currently serves as a co-investigator on a Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation funded project developing and evaluating the implementation of a web-based self-help alcohol intervention for returning US Military Veterans.  Dr. Enggasser is a licensed Psychologist and Health Service Provider in the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
