This program will examine the effects of discrimination in school-aged youth and will discuss the recognition and management of discrimination in the school setting. This educational activity is designed to increase the likelihood of adequate identification and management of discrimination among youth in schools and improve the understanding of cultural humility and awareness of bias and the impact on students and identify strategies to help promote respect for diversity in the classroom.

 


 

Target Audience

This program is intended for psychologists, social workers, educators, and license mental health counselors.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training session, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe cultural humility and how to foster a culturally sensitive and inclusive school environment 
  2. Explain the distinction between cultural humility and cultural competence
  3. Describe the importance of cultural humility in the learning environment
  4. Discuss the importance of being aware of bias and the impact on students 
  5. Identify how to encourage and promote respect for diversity in the Classroom

    The Collaborative of NASW, Boston College, and Simmons College Schools of Social Work authorizes social work continuing education credits for courses, workshops, and educational programs that meet the criteria outlined in 258 CMR of the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Social Workers

    This program has been approved for 1.00 Social Work Continuing Education hours for relicensure, in accordance with 258 CMR. Collaborative of NASW and the Boston College and Simmons Schools of Social Work Authorization Number D91850

  • 1.00 Participation

    This course allows other providers to claim a Participation Certificate upon successful completion of this course.

    Participation Certificates will specify the title, location, type of activity, date of activity, and number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ associated with the activity. Providers should check with their regulatory agencies to determine ways in which AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ may or may not fulfill continuing education requirements.
