Telestroke Practice and Performance: Training for Acute Stroke Clinicians
Course Overview:
Telestroke Practice and Performance: Training for Acute Stroke Clinicians is a four-hour, asynchronous course designed to equip physicians and other acute stroke clinicians with the skills and confidence to conduct effective real-time telestroke evaluations. Using evidence-based AHA/ASA standards, participants will learn to perform remote neurological assessments, interpret imaging, make time sensitive treatment decisions, and communicate efficiently with on-site teams.

- Perform a structured remote neurological assessment using the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Interpret acute stroke imaging (CT, CTA) to determine eligibility for IV thrombolysis and endovascular therapy.
- Make evidence-based, time-sensitive treatment decisions in a telestroke consultation.
- Communicate effectively with bedside teams to ensure efficient workflow and patient safety.
- Evaluate telestroke program performance and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
- Apply risk management principles in telestroke practice to reduce patient safety events, improve documentation, and mitigate medicolegal risk.

Course Directors:
Yasaman Pirahanchi, MD, MS, RPNI
Dr. Pirahanchi is a Faculty Lecturer, MGH Center for Neurological Emergencies, Mass General Brigham, a Vascular Neurologist at UCLA Health, the Stroke Director of UCLA West Valley Medical Center, and Associate Director, UCLA Transcranial Doppler (TCD) Laboratory.

Joshua N. Goldstein, MD, FNCS
Dr. Goldstein is an emergency physician who specializes in neurologic emergencies. He received both his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 2000, completed his residency at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency in 2005, followed by a research fellowship in Vascular and Critical Care Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He is currently the Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and the Director of the Center for Neurologic Emergencies in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital; a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School; and holds the MGH Endowed Chair in Emergency Medicine Research. He is a Fellow of the Neurocritical Care Society, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Goldstein has a financial relationship as a consultant for AstraZeneca, Takeda, Octapharma, and Cayuga.
