This course is intended for dermatologists as well as healthcare providers of all backgrounds and specialties seeking to improve their diagnosis and management of skin conditions in diverse skin types and to grow in their practice of culturally competent medicine.
In addition to the core skin of color dermatology curriculum, which teaches the foundation of the diagnosis and management of skin conditions presenting in diverse skin types, this course also offers several specialized elective modules focused on current issues such as the impact of climate change and COVID infection on the skin, and hot topics in men’s health and cosmetics in skin of color.

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify basic dermatology problems, both the common and the acute/dangerous that are emergencies in diverse skin types
- Discuss environmental and genetic risk factors for the most common type of skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma) for patients of diverse skin types and backgrounds
- Identify and properly diagnose common hair loss conditions, including those more common in patients of various hair types and backgrounds, and avoid misdiagnoses.
- Manage basic dermatology problems in patients with darker skin types in their own practices and know when to refer to a specialist.
- Manage basic dermatology problems in patients of diverse skin types and backgrounds in a culturally competent way
- Develop a standardized approach to hair loss evaluation and workup in the cultural context and practices relevant to patients of diverse backgrounds
- Understand the trends of skin conditions and practices in different countries of the world and how to be sensitive to the cultural context of patients from these countries in managing their skin conditions
